As more and more people get tested for COVID-19, University Medical Center is asking for those people without exposure or symptoms, to hold off on testing. This is an effort to ensure convenient access to testing for those patients with the highest risks. The hospital stated that by doing this it will help reduce unnecessary repeat testing. UMC is referring to those people that tested positive and then get another test to see if they can end quarantine.
They also stated, “As a result of this guidance, UMC will no longer provide unnecessary follow-up tests after a positive result. If an employer requires a negative test prior to an employee returning to work, the employer should make arrangements to provide testing services for employees.” Exposure is defined as spending 15 minutes or more within 6 feet of someone with an active COVID-19 infection, regardless of whether the people involved wore face coverings during the encounter.
