We know this Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic has made a big impact in everyone’s lives. Now people tend to be online more than ever. This poses a great opportunity for scammers to scam individuals using digital platforms. In an effort to help keep our community safe, we would like to share a few security related reminders. We hope these helps you stay safe while navigating online platforms.
- Beware of websites selling fraudulent products. Shopping online can be convenient, especially now that some oft the essentials like cleaning supplies and face masks are hard to find in stores. But you should be very careful when searching for these items, or anything else online. Make sure you know the site, don’t buy from sites you don’t know.
- Beware of fraudulent financial offers. Always keep an eye out for emails, text messages, and phone calls you may receive from “financial institutions”. Scammers will pose as your bank claiming a fraudulent charge and then ask you to confirm your personal information. Or they can also pose as a merchant claiming to have a once in a lifetime offer. Don’t give out your personal information! Instead, hang up/don’t click the link, call your financial institution/merchant to make sure they were really trying to get ahold of you.
